To analyze ecosystem services we use i-Tree. i-Tree is a group of different programs that calculate the benefits of trees.
i-Tree Eco calculates ecosystem services. These are the functions of ecosystems that benefit people, i.e. maintain or improve human well-being and living conditions. These include, for example, storing carbon dioxide, absorbing particulate matter, and reducing cooling and heating costs of buildings and stormwater management.
Services
We can carry out a tree inventory that includes an i-Tree Eco survey, or a stand-alone i-Tree Eco survey if an inventory has already been carried out. The survey provides a better understanding of the composition and condition of the tree population and the quantitative values of the ecosystem services they provide. Based on these measures, we can then make an economic calculation that clarifies how trees represent an important capital in societal benefits.
