Tree Cities of the world

Tree City of the World is an initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the American Arbor Day Foundation. Established in 2020, the initiative aims to raise awareness and enable good management of trees in cities.

Being named Tree City of the World is a great way to raise the profile of the city's trees and the great work of all those involved in their management.

We can help you achieve the goals required to apply for Tree City of the World status and we can also help with the entire application process. So far, all the cities we have helped have been approved and received the award.

The required objectives are:

  • Responsibility for city trees - We help you describe who is responsible for the city's trees according to the structure desired by the FAO.
  • Policy - We can develop policies and guidance documents required to apply and inventory your trees and ensure that your tree inventory meets the requirements to apply.
  • Inventory - We can help you inventory your tree population, but if you don't have the time or resources, we can also conduct FAO-approved canopy cover measurements instead of inventories.
  • Budget - We help you develop the financial documentation needed to meet FAO requirements.
  • Celebrations - We have a wide range of ways you can celebrate, the only limit is your imagination!
