The right tree in the right place, for the right reason

Having a high proportion of green space in the city increases people's well-being, while preserving and developing important ecosystem services. Different methods will provide different types of information, for example, i-Tree Canopy will provide an average value for a given area, while satellite data can provide a more detailed picture. Historical maps and aerial photographs can also show the historical development of an area, which can then be linked to the amount of ecosystem services that have increased or decreased during this period.

What we offer

We use different methods to measure canopy cover and analyze what the results mean for the area. The results will clearly show what the trees can do for the urban climate and the people living there. We can also calculate the quantitative ecosystem services provided by the trees, such as air pollution reduction and stormwater retention, as well as a monetary value for these ecosystem services.

The results of the canopy coverage can show opportunities for development and improvement of the current situation, and measures can be designed to increase ecosystem services and thus improve the living environment. We have also helped several managers with historical analyses, which unfortunately often show that the canopy cover has decreased, thus leading to a reduced amount of ecosystem services that the trees provide to the inhabitants.
